How to Turn Off Ford MyKey

Ford MyKey allows you to set restrictions on speed, stereo volume, and many other vehicles features to help protect teen drivers and other family members. If you need to turn off those settings, disabling Ford MyKey is very simple.

Step-by-Step: Ford MyKey Disable

First, you’ll need the admin key/admin key fob, or you won’t be able to disable Ford MyKey. From there, follow these steps to return the vehicle to default settings.

  1. Start the car and the onboard computer will activate.
  2. With the steering wheel-mounted information display controls, press the left arrow button to access the main menu.
  3. On the main menu, select “Settings” by pressing “OK.”
  4. Under “Settings,” scroll to the option that says “MyKey,” then press “OK.”
  5. Under “MyKey,” select “Clear MyKey.”
  6. Press and hold “OK” until the message “All MyKeys Cleared” appears on screen. Then you’re all set.

What is Ford MyKey?

Like Ford SYNC® and Ford Remote Start, Ford MyKey is an exclusive Ford system designed to help parents with teen drivers. The primary driver can use Ford MyKey to promote safe driving habits by setting limitations for other drivers such as turning off the car’s entertainment features, making sure seatbelts are fastened, and setting a top speed. While driving with Ford MyKey, secondary drivers will have to obey any settings you set. This system is totally optional for Rogers drivers to activate.

Step-by-Step: Program Keys with MyKey

To setup Ford MyKey, for the first time or after disabling it:

  1. First, grab the key you would like to use for your secondary driver. In vehicles with push-button start, insert the key into the backup slot.
  2. Using the left arrow in your information display controls, access the main menu and navigate to “Settings.”
  3. From here, scroll down and select “MyKey,” followed by “Create MyKey” from the new menu.
  4. The system will prompt you to select “OK,” thereby labelling the key that’s in the ignition as a MyKey.
  5. From this point forward, the key will be restricted upon starting up the vehicle until Ford MyKey is disabled.

Anytime you need to adjust these settings, insert your admin key into the vehicle and navigate back to the MyKey menu.
